WWW Wednesday – 14th November 2018

Hey guys! I feel like all my posts have been starting the same way the last few times however, starting from today each Wednesday I will be taking part in the WWW Wednesday meme. That way at least I know there will be weekly content being posted and I’m also going to try getting back into reviewing again too.

So, to get started; WWW Wednesday is a meme led by Sam over at Taking On A World Of Words. All you have to do to take part is answer three (3) questions!

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

At the moment I’m currently reading The Girl In Between by Laekan Zea Kemp. The Girl In Between follows Bryn, a teenage girl who suffers from Klein-Levin Syndrome (KLS) which means that she suffers episodes of prolonged sleep that can last anywhere from a few weeks to months. Whilst in these states of sleep, Bryn lives in an alternate reality where she lives her past until one day a mysterious boy shows up. You can find the full synopsis here.

I’m not 100% sure on how I feel about it yet. I mean I’m halfway through it already but that’s just because I need to find out if Bryn finds out who the boy is and to also find out why he has suddenly appeared (I highly doubt it because there’s 4 books in the series). I’m not fully engrossed in it as much as I want to be and I am struggling to pick it back up again once I’ve put it down but like I just said, I need to know what is going to happen so I’m going to keep going and see how this one ends before deciding if I want to read the rest of the books or not.

I’m also listening to Tess Of The D’Urberville’s on audiobook. This book has been one of my favourite books for about 6 years now and I just absolutely adore it after studying it at school. Tess Of The D’Urbervilles is such a heartbreaking story and I wouldn’t even be able to write a short synopsis without spoiling anything so to see what the book is about then you can go here. This book is one I can read over and over again and no matter how many times I read it, I still feel the same amount of anger, sadness and heartbreak for everything that Tess is put through. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

I’ve just recently finished reading the first two books in the Arc Of A Scythe Series and I am completely obsessed! Scythe starts us off by introducing Citra and Rowan to us, two teens who live in a world where death by natural causes has been completely eradicated and you can now only die at the hands of a Scythe. Citra and Rowan are chosen by Scythe Faraday as apprentices and so begins their journey on learning the art of killing as well as understanding why Scythes have to do what they do. Only one of the characters can become a scythe and they both then find out that whoever wins the ring must glean the other.
Thunderhead pretty much starts off where Scythe finished. Again we follow Citra, Rowan and a few more familiar Scythes as conflict within the Scythedom is growing day by day. With one of their lives in danger, it all becomes clear that there is a master plan in the works to ruin everything as it is. As the Thunderhead observes what is going on, will it decide to intervene and help save what is wrong? Or will it standby and watch the world fall apart?

I absolutely adored these two book and I’m so excited for book 3 to be announced. With the way Thunderhead ended, I don’t think I can wait too long because the ending was HUGE!! The plot was just so different to a lot of YA Sci-Fi I’ve read recently and it was just really interesting to see Shusterman’s take on the future. I found the characters to be extremely strong and there was a lot of character development too which was great. I loved the range of characters included in the story. There was the few I loved and then the few that I despised and wanted to see the end of.

If you’re into Sci-Fi/YA, then I highly recommend this series to you!

In October’s Fairyloot box, we received a gorgeous edition of Girls Of Paper And Fire  by Natasha Ngan and for the first time ever they’re doing a read-along of it tomorrow so I’m looking forward to starting that and experiencing it along with everyone else! I’ve heard so many good things about this book and it’s made me even more excited to start reading it too!

Other than that, I haven’t really planned what else I’m going to read. I’ll need to wait until I’ve unpacked all my books after moving and go from there. There’s so many Fairyloot books I haven’t read yet so I might even make a start on them and I’m also hoping to plan my TBR for Book Roasts Magical Readathon that is happening in December! If you want more information on how you can take part in that too then head over to her YouTube channel or just click here and it’ll take you straight to her announcement video!

If you guys have done a WWW Wednesday post then please link it below so I can check it out and I’ll see you all again soon.

Be fab and have a good week ahead!

Harry Potter Moment Of The Week

Harry Potter Moment Of The Week

Hey guys, so I don’t seem to be doing too well with this blogging thing lately but once I’m sure my mental health is in a better state then I shall be back regularly! Anway, on to the post.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone I’ve decided to do today’s HPMOTW topic as well as a few from the past that I’ve missed too. HPMOTW is a meme started by Uncorked Thoughts and Lunar Rainbows and basically the aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/films/J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related!. To see the upcoming topics and to find out how to join then please do click on the links!

So, on to topic number one; If you could save only ONE character from death, who would it be?

Image result for sirius black

I would definitely have to choose Sirius for this one. His death is one I’ll never get over. I really wanted to see where his relationship with Harry would go as the series went on and when I got to his death my heart completely broke. Not only because we wouldn’t see more of Harry and Sirius’ relationship but also because just as Sirius was finally finding his freedom, that all got taken away from him and that’s something that hurt me the most.

Topic 2: Favourite moment from Book 1?

Image result for hagrid meets harry

My favourite moment definitely has to be when Harry met Hagrid and found out he was a wizard and then goes to Diagon Alley to get all his school items. This is where the story officially starts and it’s where we see the close bond between Hagrid and Harry start to build. The relationship between both these characters is one of my favourites and I feel like it’s extremely underrated considering Hagrid acts like a father figure towards Harry and that’s something I really love about Hagrid.

Topic 3; Favourite Molly Weasley moment?

Okay so this scene gave me life! I absolutely loved seeing a badass Molly Weasley. She’s such a beautiful, kind and caring character and seeing her being protective over her only daughter (like she is with all her kids) and standing up to Bellatrix was one of my favourite things. That woman has balls and it was genuinely one of the best scenes for me.

Final topic; One thing you would change about the movies?

Image result for peeves harry potter

Okay, so there’s so much I would change about the movies but one thing that I’m still annoyed at is the fact they never showed Peeves through the movies. Peeves was such a great character in the books and I felt he added so much humour to the books that it was a shame to leave him out of the films. I especially would’ve loved to see the scenes where McGonagall encourages his bad behaviour. He was such a well thought out character and I feel like leaving him out of the films was a big mistake as it could’ve added so much more to them.

So guys, that’s the end of my HPMOTW post. What are your guys thoughts on everything I’ve answered today? Do you agree? If not, what would your answers be? Let me know in the comments below!!

What Are You Reading Wednesday #1

What Are You Reading Wednesday #1

Hi guys! So today I discovered this meme hosted by Andie (It’s A Reading Thing) and it looks like fun! For the What Are You Reading Wednesdays meme (WAYRW) all you have to do is grab the book you are currently reading and answer the three questions:

  1. What’s the name of your current read?
  2. Go to page 34 in your book or 34% in your ebook and share a couple of sentences.
  3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?

  1. Right now I’m currently re-reading Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer.
  2. “Do you really have any idea how important you are to me? Any concept at all of how much I love you?” He pulled me tighter against his hard chest, tucking my head under his chin.
  3. If Edward wasn’t completely controlling and possessive and Jacob wasn’t forceful then yeah, maybe. Also Bella would need to stop being so whiny. I mean Forks is pretty much like Scotland where the weather is crappy the majority of the time so it wouldn’t really be much different except vampires and werewolves would exist.

What are you guys currently reading? Let me know in the comments below!

Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Wishes I’d Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me

Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Wishes I’d Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me

*i just realised I have two #8s so one will count as a spare wish if it exists because I have no idea what wish I want to get rid of :’)*

Hi guys! So today is the day I’ve finally decided to take part in the Top Ten Tuesday meme. I’ve seen loads of the people I follow take part in it and it looks like fun! Also it gives me a weekly thing to post when I don’t have any reviews to post.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was created by The Broke and Bookish.

This week’s topic is: 10 Wishes I’d Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me. YOU DREAM IT AND THE BOOKISH GENIE CAN DO IT!

  1. For an entire room in my house for my own personal library.

Like who doesn’t want this? A place where I’m surrounded by all my books and can just sit and read for as long as I want without anyone disturbing me.

2. To be able to enter/be part of any story I read.

How amazing would it be if you could jump straight into the book and experience everything along with the characters.

3. To be able to spend the day with my favourite authors with it being one author per day.

I would literally do anything to meet J.K. Rowling, Cassandra Clare, Thomas Hardy etc!

4. For there to be a brilliant adaption of The Mortal Instruments Series.

I honestly didn’t like the City Of Bones movie at all. It felt very rushed and just did nothing at all for the books. I think they were right in choosing Jamie Campbell Bower for the role as Jace lookwise however I feel he tried to hard to get the part right and it just went wrong. Hopefully the series is slightly better but we’ll see.

5. I’d wish for it to be acceptable to read anywhere.

The majority of the time I’m at some sort of gathering etc I just want to sit in a corner and read. Apparently that’s mostly frowned upon.

6. I’d wish for the ability to say the name of a book and it just appear in front of me.

Imagine being able to get any book you want just by saying the name? That would be fab.

7. To meet all my favourite book characters.

Jace (TMI Series), Levi & Cath (Fangirl), Basically everyone from Harry Potter. Life would be great if I could meet them all.

8. To go to all the Harry Potter theme parks/tours etc.

I want to go to all the Harry Potter themed places but unfortunately at the moment I don’t have money and I’ve been desperate to go to all these places for ages now.

8. To get paid for reading.

Imagine being able to do your favourite thing all day every day and get paid for it? That would honestly be the best thing ever for me. I’d get to spend all day in my own wee library with my cats, eating food and to be honest, what more could you really need in life?

9. For Scotland to have their own Book Festival/BookCon.

I hardly ever see any type of book festival advertised in Scotland other than the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I’m desperate for there to be a Book Con type thing here though.

10. For J.K. Rowling to release a series about the Marauders’ time at Hogwarts.

So, there we have it, my 10 wishes for the Book Genie! I had a lot of fun doing this and I look forward to doing this again next week.

What would you guys wish for? Let me know in the comments below or even take part in this meme!

Blogger Recognition Award

Blogger Recognition Award

I was nominated a few weeks ago by the lovely Eleanor (Book Marked Reading) for the Blogger Recognition Award which is a pleasure to be awarded. Thank you so much!

The Rules:

  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
  • Write a post to show off your award! Give a brief story of how your blog got started, and give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you’ve nominated in the post.
  • Make sure to also attach the award itself! (You can do this by right-clicking, saving, and uploading the image above).
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you’ve nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
  • Provide a link to the original post on Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed, and we can keep it from mutating and becoming confusing!

How my blog got started:

Throughout my life I’ve always been an avid reader. My parents used to call me their little bookworm as I would always have a book in my hand. The older I got the more books I read and so I started to think about giving something back to the author. It wasn’t until May this year (2015) that I decided I would give blogging a try to see how I got on. I originally started on tumblr but had too many accounts that I kept forgetting all my login details so eventually I decided to create a bookstagram account and see if I could get any inspiration etc on how to start a blog from there. I then discovered wordpress and so decided to create a blog on here and I transferred the couple of reviews I had posted onto this site. From there I started reviewing every couple of books I read and then I signed up to sites like Reading Alley and Netgalley to get ARCs that I could review to help authors out too. In the last 5 months I’ve started to enjoy blogging a lot however due to work commitments I’ve been unable to post a lot which has made me disappointed in myself but as soon as things calm down in both my jobs then I’ll be back posting regularly again.

Advice for new bloggers

There’s not much I can really say because I guess I’m still quite new to it all and getting used to it myself but post as much as you can. If like me you have other commitments even just one or two posts a week can help keep your following. Also, share your posts on any social media you have too! I’ve found that when I tweet my reviews to the author of the book I’ve reviewed, they often share it which helps increase your views etc. There’s also many tags and stuff that you can take part in to help you join in with the community and audience you’re trying to reach.

I tag:

I’m going to tag my first 15 followers here as a thank you to them for wanting to read my posts and sticking with my blog over the last few months.
