The Keep It Fresh Award

The Keep It Fresh Award

So just under a week ago the lovely Amy at Warm Days Will Never Cease nominated me for this award and now that I’m off work with a muscle spasm in my neck I can finally get around to doing it! This looks like it’s going to be fun so thank you Amy!

The rules are as follows:

  • Post the rules before starting and link back to this post as a reference for other bloggers.
  • Part A: Answer each of the fruit questions (each fruit corresponds to a book!) & add pictures plus why you thought that particular book deserves that particular fruit if possible.
  • Part B: Choose your favourite fruit (even if it is one of the fruits in part A). Come up with a question that we didn’t ask and answer it.
  • Part C: Create your own smoothie from the fruits in Part A (imagine a Lemon-Tomato-Apple smoothie ~ yuck), and find a book that would correlate to your smoothie!
  • Nominate as many and anyone that you think are deserving of this award but it would be nice if you nominated a minimum of 5!
  • Notify your nominees of the nomination (nom nom nom ~ :D)
  • The most important rules? HAVE FUN and of course, KEEP IT FRESH! 🙂

PART A: Fruit Questions

Strawberries: Name the sweetest book you’ve read. (e.g. sweet in terms of the characters or if the story takes place in a sweet world… etc.)

  • There’s two I could choose from but I think I’m going to have to say Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell as I loved everything about this book and the storyline was just so sweet! You can read my review of it here!

Coconut: What is a book that you would bring on vacation with you to a tropical destination? (Or if you’re just relaxing at the beach…)

  • Oooooh this is a difficult one. I can’t pick just one but any book by Jennifer E Smith as I adore her books and I can just see myself lying on a beach reading one of her books

Pineapple: What is a book that you didn’t think you would like by judging its cover/summary/the first few pages but started to grow on you?

  • Tess Of The D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. I didn’t think I would like this book simply because it was a book I had to study for school but I absolutely adore this book and it is now one of my favourite books

Orange: What’s the juiciest book you’ve read? (e.g. A book with tons of action, romance… etc.)

  • The whole The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices series for me. I loved every single thing about these books, the action, romance, characters etc.

Watermelon: A watery book (e.g. There wasn’t tons of substance to the book/the details were just too watery…etc. Don’t get us wrong though, we love watermelons!)

  • The Good Girl by Mary Kubica. This book sounded so promising and then when I read it I really didn’t enjoy it at all. It was predictable and the ending was just disappointing.

Dragonfruit: What’s the most unique book you’ve read? (e.g. Unique in writing style, characters, plot… etc.)

  • I think I have to go with First by Chanda Stafford. I loved this book! The plot was completely different to anything I’ve ever read and I was lucky enough to receive a copy of the second book from Chanda herself which I’m looking forward to reading. You can read my review of First here!

Lemons: Name a book that made you feel sour. (e.g. The emotions were just sour, you just felt sour reading the book, or the book includes sour characters… etc.)

  • The One You Love by Paul Pilkington. I received a copy of this book from Goodreads about a year ago and I’m glad I didn’t go out of my way to buy this book because it was just awful.

Tomato: What is a wonderful book that you think should be more widely known? Or a fantastic author whom you think deserves more recognition? (Since some may not know that tomatoes are actually fruits!)

  • If You Find Me – Emily Murdoch. For a debut novel this book was incredible! I loved the plot and the characters and it makes me sad that I don’t see a lot of people talk about this book. You can check out my review of it here.

Apple: Name a really stereotypical book of a certain genre just like apples which are typical fruits. In the end was that book good or not? (e.g. A very typical contemporary/fantasy book… etc.)

  • Twilight. Although I plan on re-reading this series it is a very stereotypical teenage romance novel

Blueberries: Name a book that made you feel blue. (Any sad, depressing books that you’ve read?)

  • Wintergirls – Laurie Halse Anderson.

Grapefruit: Any bitter books? (e.g. a book that was blue but MORE… do you have any bitter resentments towards characters from a book? Any sour turned bitter emotions? Any uber hateful villains?)

  • The Changeling – Robin Jenkins. This book was heartbreaking and I absolutely detested Mr Forbes.

Jackfruit: Name the most physically heavy book that you’ve ever read. (Because jackfruits are pretty heavy fruits!)

  • My Jane Austen Collection. I haven’t actually read this yet but it’s the heaviest book I own.

Limes: Name a funny book that you’ve read because limes add flavour and so does humour with every book.

  • I don’t know if this book will count but I’m going to say Him & Me – Jack & Michael Whitehall. Jack Whitehall is one of my favourite comedians so when he released his autobiography I just had to buy it. No book has made me laugh as much as this did.

PART B: Favourite Fruit

Choose your favourite fruit and then choose a book that would correspond the best and if your fruit is already taken on our list, make up your own question and answer it.

I’m going to mix this up a bit as I can’t seem to come up with my own question for my favourite fruit so I’m going to say Peaches. Peaches are a fruit I’ve never actually ate but I’ve tried so many peach flavoured things so my question is going to be: A book series that you’ve read part of but haven’t completed? I’ve read the first two books in the Noughts & Crosses series but I’ve yet to buy the last two books to complete it. I enjoyed the first two books so hopefully I’ll get the last two sometime soon to re-read the full series!

Part C: Fruit Smoothies

Finally, choose a book that was a mix of some of these fruits to make your own smoothie. (e.g. A strawberry blueberry lemon smoothie would correlate to a sweet and sad but sour book.)

Strawberry, Apple and  Blueberries (sweet, stereotypical and sad)

The Fault In Our Stars – John Green. This is a book loved by pretty much everyone and it has the sweet teen romance and the heartbreaking scenes too.

I nominate:

I really enjoyed doing this and I hope you all do too! I look forward to reading your post!

Thank you again to Amy for nominating me!

Harry Potter Moment Of The Week

Harry Potter Moment Of The Week

Hey guys! It’s been a few weeks since I last did Harry Potter Moment Of The Week (HPMOTW) but I’m finally going to join in again.

HPMOTW is a meme started by Uncorked Thoughts and Lunar Rainbows and basically the aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/films/J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related!. To see the upcoming topics and to find out how to join then please do click on the links!

This week’s topic is: Would you rather be locked in a room with Voldemort or Bellatrix?

Both these characters absolutely terrified me as a kid and I’m not going to lie, they still kinda scare me now. There are reasons why I would choose Voldemort and reasons why I would choose Bellatrix. Whilst both are cruel and sadistic I feel like I could learn a lot from Bellatrix as she is a really clever witch and knows her stuff (even if it is used for evilness) but at the same time I feel like she would torture me slowly just like she did to Neville’s parents. For Voldemort, if I was going to be killed then I feel like he would just get it over and done with using the killing curse if I done everything he wanted me to do beforehand. None of these are positive reasons but it’s all I can come up with as I can’t choose just one of them!

What about you guys? Who would you rather be locked in a room with?

This week’s topic is: If you could change one thing in book one, what would it be?

I just recently finished re-reading the Harry Potter series again and I forgot how much I loved it! I love pretty much everything about the books and they’re magical in every way possible. However, if I HAD to change something then it’d probably the fact that Snape picked on Harry pretty much on his first day. He didn’t even get to know Harry before he started. He didn’t let Harry settle in to the class. It started as soon as the class began and for me that wasn’t fair.

What about you guys? Would you change anything?

This week’s topic is: If you had to use one, which Unforgivable Curse would you use?

Well I wouldn’t want to use any because, well the name says it all really, they’re unforgivable. Also, they’re usually used to hurt people. I mean, look at Neville’s parents who were tortured to the point of insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange and a few other Death Eaters using the Cruciatus Curse. This curse is used to torture people by inflicting excruciating pain on the victims.

We then have Avada Kadavra, the Killing Curse. This one is the worst of them all. Again, the name says exactly what it is.

If I really HAD to choose then it’d probably be the Imperius Curse as this one is probably the least harmful depending on who cast the curse.

The picture above really says it all about the Imperius Curse. Depending on who casts the curse, they could just be completely calm but if cast by someone evil a.k.a Death Eaters, then could be used to commit horrible deeds.

You can find out all about the unforgivable curses here if you don’t already know them!

What about you guys? If you had to choose, which one would you pick?

This week’s topic is: Which death eater would you be?

To be honest I wouldn’t want to be any of the death eaters. There isn’t a single one that I’ve ever thought ‘oh, I’d love to be them for a day.’ Bellatrix Lestrange is completely sadistic and for me probably one of the worst Death Eaters. She takes so much pleasure from other people’s pain and she happily and gladly tortured Neville’s parents to the point of insanity. What kind of human does that? She’s a vile person. Of course none of the other Death Eaters were much better but for me I have a strong dislike towards Lestrange. Then we have Peter Pettigrew, the man who betrayed Lily and James Potter after he turned them into Voldemort. Then he had the audacity to ruin someone else’s life by making them out to be a murderer (Sirius Black). I literally can’t pick any so I guess I haven’t really properly answered this week’s topic.

What about you guys? Which death eater would you be?

Reasons I chose this song: I’ve liked this band for a couple of months now and was happy to find out they were the support for Young Guns when I seen them last week. They were absolutely incredible live and Conor Mason’s vocals just send shivers down my spine. He is an amazing vocalist and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this band. They’re going to go on to do big things. If you like this song and want to check out more of their songs then you can do so here and you can buy their music here.

2. Rising Up – Young Guns

About: Young Guns Wiki

Reasons I chose this song: Last week I went to see Young Guns in Glasgow on their tour for their new album Ones & Zeros and they played this song live. The crowd during this song was just so good and it was an amazing atmosphere. Gutav’s vocals in this song are just indescribable. The guitar riffs and bass are just another thing that makes this song great. For me, making this the opening track to their new album Ones And Zeros was the right thing to do. If you want to listen to more of Young Guns then you can listen here and if you like what you hear then you can buy their music here.

For Fans Of: You Me At Six, Mallory Knox, Don Broco, Twin Atlantic

3. Psycho – Muse

Reasons I chose this song: Muse are one of the bands I’ve been a fan of for many years and each album just keeps getting better. This was the promotional single from their new album Drones and boy did I fall in love with it straight away. Matt Bellamy’s vocals are just something else. One of my favourite things about Muse is the guitar riffs and the bass. The guitar riffs in this song are just incredible and I could listen to it forever. This weeks topic is: You have to battle a dragon in the Triwizard Tournament. Which one is it?

Okay so for this one I would probably choose the Common Welsh Green dragon. This is simply because this is the dragon that seems more ‘calm’ in the sense it avoids all humans unless it’s provoked and it’s also described as having a ‘melodious roar’ which makes it seem like an easier choice. Especially since I’m not the bravest of people and get scared of the smallest little thing.

I definitely would never go for the Hungarian Horntail dragon. This seems like the most vicious as it’s flame can reach up to about fifty feet and it also has a screeching roar and I’d most probably die within five seconds of being in the company of this dragon (I mean just look at the gif and you’ll see why I don’t want to choose this one). At least with the Common Welsh Green I may survive for like a minute or so.

What dragon would guys choose to battle in the Triwizard Tournament? Leave a comment and let me know!
